Track Express Meet Essentials

Athlete Nutrition Guidelines

To help our athletes perform at their best, it is important that parents provide proper nutrition before and during meet days.

Athletes should eat a healthy breakfast before arriving at the meet and bring nutritious snacks to fuel their bodies throughout the day. Good options include fruits, granola bars, sandwiches, and other light, energy-supporting foods.

To help prevent stomach discomfort and support optimal performance, athletes should avoid dairy products the night before and the day of the meet.

Once athletes have completed all of their events for the day, they are welcome to enjoy a heavier meal.

Proper nutrition plays an important role in helping our athletes stay energized, focused, and ready to compete.

Listed below are suggested item to keep in mind when prepared for those long track meets.

Meet Day Guidelines

To help our athletes stay prepared, comfortable, and ready to compete, please follow these meet day guidelines:

  • Arrival Time: Athletes should arrive one hour before the scheduled meet start time to allow adequate time for warm-ups.

  • Label Equipment: Please write your athlete’s name on all track equipment, including clothing, shoes, bags, and other personal items.

  • Prepare for the Day: Meets can run from 8:00 AM until as late as 9:00 PM. Please bring items such as chairs, blankets, snacks, water, sunscreen, and weather-appropriate clothing to stay comfortable throughout the day.

  • Avoid Sugary Drinks: Athletes should not drink sugary beverages on meet days, as they can negatively affect performance and hydration.

  • Stay Cool: On hot or sunny days, try to keep athletes out of direct sunlight as much as possible to help conserve energy for their events.

  • Athlete Tent Priority: Tents assembled by the club are primarily for the athletes. Please make sure athletes are sheltered first.

  • Stay Warm Between Events: Athletes should keep their sweats on when not competing to keep their muscles warm and help prevent injuries.
